COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This eighteen week course is designed to introduce students to the mental, physical, social, emotional, and environmental aspects of human wellness. The course will include concepts for achieving a healthy body and healthy mental attitudes. Other topics studied are body systems, diseases, and unhealthy substances. Human sexuality and sexually transmitted infectious disease education, within established guidelines, will be an integral part of this course. This is a required course for all eighth grade students.
TEXTBOOKS / SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Pencils / Pens Health Folder: to go in 3 ring binder or expandable folder School Planner (On a daily basis). A book that can be read when work is finished (Needed daily and there will be random supply checks) Colored pencils or Markers (optional, but helpful) |
GRADING SYSTEM:
Grades will be based on the following scale: A = 90% - 100% B = 80 – 89% C = 70% - 79% D = 60 – 69% F = 59% and below All grades will be based on a combination of grades received in homework, class work, test and quizzes, and performances and projects determined by the instructor. Grades will be indicated by the percentage of possible points earned on each assignment by the student. |

All homework and classwork is expected to be turned in on time. If a student has an excused absence it is their responsibility to get classnotes and homework assignments. If a student is absent three days, they have three school days after they return to school to obtain missing assignments which must be made up within a reasonable time. It is important that homework be done on a daily basis in order to reinforce the concepts and skills learned that day.
School late work policy: all work is expected to be turned in on time. Any work turned in late and within five (5) school days will receive 60% credit. Late work turned in after 5 days will receive zero credit.
MISSED TESTS / QUIZZES MUST BE TAKEN BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL.
If you are absent it is your responsibility to schedule a time to make up the missed assignment. The test / quiz must be scheduled within a week of you returning back to school. If you do not take the test or quiz it will result in a 0%.

I believe that it is important for parents to be aware of what will be expected of their child in school. Our classroom will be built on mutual respect. I believe that all students can behave appropriately in the classroom whether working individually or in-group activities. Food and drinks (other than water) will not be permitted in the classroom unless specifically approved of by the teacher. Makeup, hairbrushes, etc. will not be permitted in the classroom. The teacher reserves the right to confiscate any item that is a disruption to learning.
EXTRA HELP:
If you are having problems with your assignments, please come in for extra help. I am available before school, during second lunch period, and by appointment after school.
